Graduate Development Program

Eligibility

To be eligible, you’ll need to meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of a three-year undergraduate degree or completed your postgraduate degree (or the same as level 7 and above of the Australian Qualifications Framework) between 1 January 2024 and 31 January 2026. Postgraduate degrees will only be accepted provided that a three-year undergraduate degree has also been obtained.
  • We welcome graduates from any academic discipline, including IT, Cyber Security, Data Science, Business, Finance, Economics, Law, Communications, Public Policy, Human Resources, Engineering, Natural Environments and Conservation, and Climate Change and Renewables.
  • Right to work in Australia (Australian or New Zealand citizen, Permanent Resident, or be eligible for a visa that allows you to work full-time in Australia until the end of February 2028. If you require a visa, you must obtain it by 31 January 2026).
  • Be available to start work in Tasmania by February 2026.

Overseas transcripts and qualifications

If your qualification is from another country, you’ll need to provide Overseas Qualification Recognition at the application stage. If you don’t have this ready, you can submit proof that you’re undergoing the process by attaching a receipt of submission. It can take up to three months to receive your Overseas Qualification Recognition, so it’s best to start this process as soon as you can. If you have, or are currently studying, a post graduate degree in Australia, you don’t need to provide Overseas Degree Recognition for your undergraduate qualification.

Note for interstate applicants

We welcome interstate applicants to apply for our program. Our recruitment process is mostly online, and online interviews are also available. You’ll need to be ready to commence work in Tasmania by February 2026.

Diversity

  • We are a strong advocate of diversity and inclusion and are committed to fostering a gender equitable workforce with diverse skills, experiences and abilities, where everyone is welcome.
  • We welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, LGBTIQA+ people, culturally diverse people, and people at any stage of life.
  • We offer targeted roles to ensure access to and inclusion to join our workforce for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or people with disability. Even if you choose a targeted role, you will be considered for all our available graduate roles.
  • We offer additional support throughout the process if you are eligible to apply for a targeted role.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

If you’re interested our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduate roles, you need to meet the Tasmanian Government’s eligibility requirements for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs. Later in the recruitment process, we’ll contact you, asking to confirm that you meet the requirement.

To meet the requirement, you must:

  • have Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander ancestry;
  • self-identify as an Aboriginal person and/or Torres Strait Islander person; and
  • recognised as an Aboriginal person and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community in which you live or have lived.

If you have already had your eligibility confirmed for Tasmanian Government Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs and services in the past, please let us know what Department service you applied for previously and your date of birth. We’ll then check your details on the whole-of-government system. If your details are listed, we can confirm your eligibility and you won’t need to do anything further.

If you haven’t been through the Tasmanian Government Eligibility process before, you need to complete the Eligibility Form. The form has two sections and requires:

  1. A Statutory Declaration; and
  2. Confirmation of your Eligibility from an Aboriginal organisation, including ancestry, recognition and acknowledging that you are accepted by the Aboriginal Community in which you live. This can be provided using the confirmation statement on the eligibility form, or a letter signed by an authorised person.

The Eligibility Form provides detailed instructions on how to prepare the above information. If you have any questions about the form or your eligibility in general, please contact Aboriginal Partnerships on 03 6232 7569 or ap@dpac.tas.gov.au.

People with Disability

If you’re interested our Disability graduate roles, you need to meet the essential requirement of living with a disability as defined in the Tasmanian Government Disability Employment Portal.

If you have any questions regarding this part of the process, please email us at graduaterecruitment@dpac.tas.gov.au.
