The Tasmanian State Service


The Tasmanian State Service (TSS) is the largest employer in Tasmania, with over 30,000 employees providing services to the Tasmanian community at all levels, and within more than 200 occupational groups ranging from Administration to Zoology.

The State Service is made up of the 18 Agencies established under the State Service Act 2000, this includes nine Departments and nine State Authorities.

Each Agency works within a framework of Ministerial responsibility, implementing policies and programs or delivering services on behalf of the Government of the day.

The TSS offer ongoing (permanent) employment wherever possible, and also have a range of shorter term opportunities (fixed-term and casual) to fill jobs for a specified term or to do a specific task.
