The chance to work for the Tasmanian State Service has always been a goal of mine and I was attracted to apply for the Graduate Development Program for the following reasons:
- The chance to work with a diverse range of talented people;
- To challenge myself and open doors to more development opportunities; and
- To serve and contribute to the Tasmanian community.
I completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology and wanted to pursue a career in Human Resources as I am passionate about adding value to organisations through their people. Working with the Department of Health has exposed me to numerous areas of Human Resources including Safety & Wellbeing, Job design and Recruitment. I work in an extremely supportive environment where my team members are happy to provide guidance and mentor me with my ongoing development. In my team I contribute to project work that influences the future of the department and contributes to the professional development of its employees.
Recently, I was heavily involved with the creation of a new health and safety induction e-learning module. My role required me to learn editing software and update an existing program so that it complied with current health and safety standards and was informative, attractive and user-friendly. I was quite proud of this piece of work as I believe it significantly improved upon the existing module and provides a far better experience for employees.
I believe that being part of the Graduate Program is a great learning experience and ideal for students who aspire to work with the State Service. It gives you the chance to meet and form long lasting relationships with others and to learn from senior professionals that have a wealth of knowledge in various professions. I would recommend the Graduate Program to any students who are looking for fulfilling work that offers huge opportunities for development and progression.
