Working for the Tasmanian State Service

A diverse and inclusive workplace

The Tasmanian State Service (TSS) is committed to providing inclusive workplaces that are free from discrimination. We want our workforce to reflect the diversity of the Tasmanian community we serve.

The State Service values the unique experiences, knowledge and skills that our employees bring to their work.

Our employees are diverse in gender, languages, ethnicity, cultural background, age, sexual orientation and religious beliefs. They are also diverse in their skills and qualifications, where they live and work, their life and work experiences, personality, abilities, family and caring responsibilities and their experience of disability.

How we operate

The State Service Act 2000

The State Service Act 2000 (the Act) is supported by the State Service Regulations 2021 and Employment Directions.

The Act is the employment framework that the State Service operates within and applies to all Heads of Agencies, Officers, Senior Executives and employees.

State Service Principles and Code of Conduct

The State Service Principles and Code of Conduct are incorporated in the Act.

The State Service Principles ensure that we provide opportunities for employees based on equity and fairness and deliver a high standard of services to the Government and community.

The State Service Code of Conduct upholds the Principles by setting standards of behaviour and conduct that apply to all employees.

State Service employees must abide by the Code of Conduct, which sets out how they:

  • behave at all times during the course of their employment;
  • treat others; and
  • use the information and resources they have access to.
