Cadet - Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE)
When I applied for the Cadetship program, I did not know I wanted a career in management or government. It turns out that applying for the program was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
The Cadetship has provided me with a number of incredible opportunities and experiences in a variety of roles that have included project management, internal and external stakeholder engagement and the chance to make a difference in the Tasmanian community.
The Program also provides opportunities to attend a range of training courses including social media training, policy basics, tools for decision makers and conflict resolution.
I am studying a Bachelor of Business and I like that the Cadetship allows me to apply my university knowledge to real life work experiences every day. The program has made me discover a passion for the work undertaken by the Tasmanian government and has been the perfect step in my career towards a management role.
The Cadetship program is a perfect opportunity for anyone who would like to have a career in management and work in a diverse environment.

Cadet - Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE)
As an undergraduate in Tasmania, I can’t imagine a better work opportunity. The DPIPWE Cadet Program provides exposure to a diverse range of areas within the Department. In less than a year, the program has afforded me experience working with aboriginal heritage, wildlife and marine, game services, historical heritage and threatened species, as well as business services, administration, web editing, policy and procurement – and so much more! All the while creating networks and professional relationships that pave the way for the future.
My degree is a Bachelor of Psychological Science, majoring in Psychology and Human Resource Management. While at times undertaking both work and studies is a handful, there is a lot of support available to ensure that Cadets reach their full potential.
If you are interested in gaining an invaluable head-start, I would encourage anyone in an undergraduate management discipline to apply!

Cadet - Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE)
Commencing as a Cadet in the DPIPWE Cadetship Program has been an extremely fulfilling and rewarding experience. In my short time as a Cadet thus far I have developed several essential skills and had the opportunity for experiences that I otherwise wouldn’t have been exposed to.
The opportunity to combine University study with full time, relevant work is invaluable. The Cadetship Program allows me to immediately apply current University learnings in a real world, meaningful scenario. The variety and depth within my current role in Land Tasmania has also developed numerous key tools and capabilities that directly relate back into study.
The rotation through multiple divisions, in addition to the focus on Cadet Development, results in expansive networking opportunities. In a department as large and diverse as DPIPWE the career and learning opportunities are endless and I’m excited for what the future holds. I definitely recommend the program and would encourage anyone looking for a career in management to pursue the opportunity.
