About Homes Tasmania
Homes Tasmania is building homes and creating opportunities for Tasmanians by delivering the ambitious 10-year, $1.5 billion plan to provide 10,000 new social and affordable homes by 2032.
We work with government, industry, the private sector, and the social housing and homelessness sector to improve the housing market and provide more housing opportunities for people in need.
Tasmanians will benefit from a resilient and diverse housing market that allows them to continue to improve their housing situation and all the opportunities that better housing makes possible.
Homes Tasmania is established under the Homes Tasmania Act 2022 and commenced on 1 December 2022.
Our purpose
Homes Tasmania is Tasmania’s housing and homelessness system manager.
The role of Homes Tasmania is to deliver affordable housing solutions across the entire housing continuum, giving priority to Tasmanians most in need. This includes helping Tasmanians into:
- short-term homeless accommodation and support
- social housing including supported accommodation, public and community housing
- affordable housing including affordable land, affordable private rentals and affordable home ownership.
Our board
Homes Tasmania is governed by a skills-based Board, appointed by the Minister for Housing.
The Board oversees how Homes Tasmania exercises it functions and powers, to ensure it meets the requirements of the Homes Tasmania Act 2022 including the Ministerial Statement of Expectations.
Our organisation
Our business is delivered over three programs and is supported by three corporate support business units.
Community infrastructure
The community infrastructure program delivers strategic and operational asset management functions including asset planning and procurement, maintenance, capital upgrading and construction for properties owned in full by Homes Tasmania or on behalf of other Tasmanian Government Agencies.
The program is also responsible for home ownership assistance called MyHome Shared Equity Program.
Housing policy and programs
Housing policy and programs provides planning, purchasing and performance functions to ensure that the overall housing system design is effective, and programs are operating both effectively and efficiently. This includes housing advice, program development and program delivery.
The program is responsible for planning the implementation of the Tasmanian Housing Strategy.
Tenancy services
Tenancy services provides tenancy management for Tasmania’s public housing.
Office of the chief executive officer
The office comprises executive services, who support the Homes Tasmania Board and coordinate requests between Homes Tasmania and the Minister’s office; governance services, who coordinate Homes Tasmania’s statutory reporting obligations including its risk and audit programs; and communications and media who are responsible for public communications, media, public relations and stakeholder engagement strategy for Homes Tasmania.
Business and information services
This unit performs business services for Homes Tasmania including administration and support, people services, data and information management, business information systems, and technology driven projects.
Financial services
This unit provides budget development, management and monitoring, internal and external reporting and coordinates our statutory financial reporting obligations.
